Lavender is one of the most popular essential oils, and it’s not surprising when you consider its benefits. Lavender has been said to help to ease stress and relax the mind. It has also been suggested that lavender can slow the activity of the nervous system. Try adding a few drops to a cotton wool pad and popping it under your pillow to help ease you into a deep sleep.

Bergamot is often used in spaces where tension or stress levels might be high. The essential oil acts much like lavender in the way it helps you to relax. There are many ways that bergamot can be used to help you sleep – try burning a few drops in an oil burner, adding a drop or two to your pillow, or drinking earl grey tea with bergamot extract.

Ylang Ylang

This sweet-smelling oil is often used in massage oils and therapeutic beauty products. Add a drop to your wrists or massage the neck and shoulders before going to bed. Remember, all essential oils must be mixed with a carrier oil before being applied to the skin. Use a carrier oil such as almond, jojoba or coconut oil.

Clary Sage

Clary sage is famous for its positive affect on the mind and has been claimed to work as a mild antidepressant. From being used as an aphrodisiac to a deodorant, clary sage has plenty of uses. Try adding it to a warm bath with a carrier oil before bed to help you get those much-needed z’s.
